Do braces hurt?
The placement of bands and brackets on your teeth does not hurt. Once they are
connected with the arch wires, you may feel some soreness of your teeth for one
to four days and sometimes, when they’re tightened. Your lips and cheeks may need
one to two weeks to get used to the braces on your teeth. Nowadays, brackets are
designed to minimize your pain after fixation and between visits.

What happens if there is pain?
You will be prescribed analgesics which you can take as advised to you.
Do I need to do anything special in the first week or so?
Yes, while you’re getting used to the braces, eat softer foods. Your gums and teeth will appreciate it. Also be extra careful when it comes to your mouth because it will be tender.
What other foods should I avoid?
Avoid sticky and hard food like chikkis, hard chocolates, nuts, chewing gum, Corn-on-the-cob (cut it off the cob),pizza crust(the hard outer edge) ,bread rolls, toast, pattice , sugarcane as they may break or damage the braces , the bands or the tubes and delay the treatment.
How do I safely remove food stuck in my braces?
The most effective methods are to floss, use an interdental brush and a toothbrush. At 'my ORTHODONTISTTM', we provide specific instructions regarding brushing at the time of appliance fixation.
What happens if a bracket comes off?
Call at the clinic and we will attach another bracket. However, every time we have to replace a bracket, it delays the period of the orthodontic treatment.
Do I need to brush more with braces?
Continue to brush after every meal and before you go to bed. Flossing is especially important to avoid trapped food.
Why do some people wear rubber bands?
The rubber bands are used to move teeth forward or back in your mouth. Use them only if advised.
What happens if I don’t wear the rubber bands when advised?
The orthodontic treatment will take longer time.
Will braces interfere with playing sports?
No. It is recommended to use a mouth guard for protection if you are a professional player.
Will braces interfere with playing musical instruments?
No. However, there may be an initial period of adjustment. In addition, brace covers can be provided to prevent discomfort.
Do ceramic braces cost more than other types?
Yes, ceramic braces cost more than metal braces.
Does treatment cost more for Adults than children?
The cost is usually the same for both children and adults. However, adults typically choose more esthetic treatment which results in a more expensive fee.
Does the result vary with ceramic or metal braces?
No, from a results perspective, ceramic and metal braces are virtually the same. The primary benefit of ceramic braces is they are less visible.
Is the price for lingual braces more than ceramic braces?
Yes, lingual braces are more expensive than ceramic braces.
Is the approach to lingual braces different?
Lingual braces require a completely different approach to treatment. The brackets are custom made for each tooth.The wires are custom bent by computer automated production equipment and is very expensive. Also, the appointments are typically 20 -30 minutes longer than traditional braces.
