Something about the most FAQ : ‘WISDOM TEETH’ |
Teeth erupt into the mouth in a specific sequence and pattern during childhood and adolescence. The last four teeth to develop are called the third molars, but most people refer to them as “Wisdom Teeth”. The wisdom teeth typically begin to erupt into the mouth between the ages of 16 and 20 years. Because there is often inadequate space for these teeth, they rarely grow in to assume a normal position within the jaws to become functional teeth that are useful in chewing. It is more often the case that these teeth come in crooked, different abnormal directions or they fail to erupt completely through the jawbone or gums. These poorly positioned wisdom teeth can have an effect on overall dental health. Problems arising from impacted teeth include pain, infection, tooth decay, crowding of teeth, Periodontal disease (gum disease),damage to adjacent teeth possibly resulting in loss of tooth or bone and can contribute to health problems. Cyst or tumors may arise from a developing third molar requiring larger, more extensive surgery. Pain is a common complaint during eruption and can be severe.
If you or your dentist have concerns regarding your wisdom teeth, an evaluation involving an oral and radiographic examination is done to evaluate the position of the wisdom teeth and potential problems and removal is advised if necessary.Removal of wisdom teeth is an outpatient procedure routinely done under local anesthesia. An updated health history is required. Patients must be accompanied by an adult escort during surgery.

Abnormal changes in the mouth typically are detected early as the oral cavity is readily accessible. Performing self-examinations regularly is encouraged to aid in early recognition. A wide variety of soft or hard tissue lesions associated with the oral cavity which generally involve ulcers, white or red patches , lumps, fibrous growths, discoloration of the gums, lips, cheek or tongue are the things to evaluate when performing self-examinations and if anything abnormal is found, then you should immediately visit
your dentist.
